Bowling Ball Turning - Loren Hatleberg
Author Last Post
I saw a video on how to turn a bowling ball and thought I would give it a try. My advice. Don't do it!:

First, it's very hard to get it centered just right so it doesn't wobble. I mean really wobble. It's scary and dangerous.

The plastic of the outer layer is sort of soft but brittle as well. Very hard to get it smooth and trued up.
The plastic is about a half inch thick and then you get to the inside which is a completely different material. It's white and a resin of some sort. It turns to a powder when trying to hollow the ball out and makes a mess and dulls your tools fast. Stinks as well.

I had a tenon on it and doing OK when the tenon broke off and the ball went bouncing down the hallway.
That's when I quit. Not worth it.
