A request for an urn provided this month's challenge. I had chased threads on small boxes years ago but not on larger openings. It took several days working with PVC and then with a variety of woods that I had in the shop to relearn the process and determine which woods would work best to create threaded inserts. Hard maple, holly, padauk, African blackwood, and rosewood worked well, and black walnut produced marginal results that are probably OK for an urn where the lid will only be put on and taken off several times.
The first urn was turned out of maple with a maple insert and a black walnut top. It is 7 inches wide, 10 inches tall and has a volume of 155 cubic inches.
The second urn is catalpa with a maple insert, maple lid and an African blackwood finial. It is 8 inches wide, 10.5 inches tall and has a volume of 220 cubic inches.
The third urn is pear which threaded well with a black walnut top. It is 6 inches wide and 10 inches tall with a volume of 102 cubic inches.
